Highwood and Fort Benton have agreed upon a 3-year HS girls basketball co-op. The request from Highwood to co-op with Belt for HS girls basketball was on the Belt School Board special meeting agenda scheduled for Monday, 6/19. With the Highwood/Ft Benton co-op now agreed upon, this item will no longer need to be addressed by our trustees. We will still hold the special meeting as the board will consider a music teacher contract for 2023-2024.
The Belt School Board of Trustees will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 6:30pm in the school cafeteria. Of high interest to parents and the community, there will be an agenda item relating to requests for a sports co-op from Highwood (New 3-year Co-Op-HS Girls Basketball). An MHSA sports co-op is a 3-year agreement between two schools to play together as one team. Under the MHSA’s newly implemented limit of 100 students to compete at the Class C level, this requested agreement would place the co-op competing at the Class B level. The co-op would have to appeal to the MHSA Board to be allowed to continue to compete in Class C. If the appeal is declined the co-op would have to compete at the Class B level or mutually choose to dissolve. If you have concerns, questions, or comments about this item you are encouraged to reach out to administration, board trustees, or to attend the special meeting. During the board meeting, public comment on agenda items can only take place after a motion has been made and it has received a second. A community member is allowed one time to comment on an agenda item. Comment time for each person may be limited to ensure an efficient and equitable meeting. Any updates in regards to this meeting will be posted to the Live Feed on the school website and school calendar (www.beltschool.com). Highwood is holding a board meeting Saturday to discuss co-op options which may influence items on our agenda for Monday.
Both gyms and the fitness room will be closed for cleaning and refinishing June 26th-July 9th.
